Aikido - General Background
If we are attacked by a force and we apply force ourselves, a collision of energies ensues which results in disharmony. Thus, accordingly the stronger force wins. If, however, we meet the force with an absorbing movement and then exhaust it to the point of imbalance before applying a force of our own (the Aikido way), we are in fact restoring harmony or redressing an imbalance. This is the basic logic and underlying philosophy of Aikido.

Although most modern schools of Judo focus on the sporting aspects, you must remember that Judo was originally derived from Jujitsu by Dr. Jigoro Kano. Therefore, with the proper knowledge and a little modification, you can easily adapt the sporting techniques of Judo back to the more self-defense oriented techniques of Jujitsu.

Now depending upon your own personal knowledge on the subject, and your own personal perspective, you will either love this book or revile it. While I myself readily question some of the material presented in this book, I do find a lot of it to be very informative in both a positive and a negative way. Rather than dwelling on the negative aspects, I will instead focus on the positive aspects of this book.

Martial Arts DVD Review - Joint Locking Essentials, Vol. 2 Arm Bars & Elbow Locks by Alain Burrese
Alain takes a very realistic approach to the use of arm bars and elbow locks and attempts to cover several influencing factors that may or may not come into play while attempting to apply them in a real life situation. I myself watched this DVD on three separate occasions and found something that I had previously missed each time. I have no doubt that were I to watch this DVD again after writing this review that I would find something else that I had previously missed.
